Spirit Abilities
*Hearing the Hurt - Being a Spirit of Compassion, Cole uncontrollably feels the pain in places and people. He can remember things from other people's lives, even things like the last emotions of people who have died horrible deaths. He doesn't do this intentionally, it simply happens - and it isn't mind reading. He can only 'hear' things that cause a person hurt or discomfort, usually things they need to confront.
*Not Very Memorable - Cole has a way of not sticking in the minds of most people he meets. This is a skill he's learned to control over time, and he can actively make someone forget they've seen him, even in the middle of a conversation so that he can try a different line of conversation if his social skills fail him. Naturally, the general population gradually forget his face and name when he is out of their sight for a while, but those he chooses to interact more with can hold on to his memory without much issue.
*You Can't See Me - At will, Cole can simply not appear to people. Sometimes it's force of habit, sometimes more purposeful, but when he disappears like this, his presence simply doesn't register to the person he is hiding it from. He can walk right up to them, even brush past them, and he simply can't be perceived. There is a measure of at least some focus involved with this, however, and if caught off-guard or unconscious, he cannot disappear. Magic that dispels the abilities of spirits can also negate this power.
SO - my questions for you!
Can Cole read your character?
If Cole reads your character's pain, what will he find? Anything in particular you want him to zero in on? (Feel free to be esoteric, too! What sights, sounds, smells, tastes?)
Is there anything you DO NOT want Cole to mention? (CWs and such)
Can Cole make your character forget him?
Can Cole make your character not see him?
Anything else you want me to know?

Date: 2021-09-04 03:01 am (UTC)If Cole reads your character's pain, what will he find? Anything in particular you want him to zero in on? (Feel free to be esoteric, too! What sights, sounds, smells, tastes?) that it's most of what you'll find going into her head regardless of what you're looking for, as a starter. Gwenaëlle is the elfblooded bastard of an Orlesian nobleman and the elven chatelaine of his home (who was promoted to that role from lady's maid to his wife after giving birth to Gwenaëlle), and for more than twenty years she was passed off as the legitimate and legitimately human heiress of his title. She knew about her true parentage from a relatively young age and struggled with the implications involved; coupled with a legitimately clinical depressive disorder, this was not a great thing for her formative years. She struggled with living in a constant state of mental crisis with the stress of that secrecy, taking on the traumas (factual and perceived by her) of her mothers, developed negative self-worth as a result of considering herself a crime that was done to both of them, was extremely ripe for and susceptible to intimate partner abuse of different kinds and suffered from it in different relationships over the years. Gwenaëlle's interior world is a big dead dove do not eat, because she is super not OK.
(Also, she has distinct sociopathic qualities - empathy isn't a natural and given thing for her, Gwenaëlle is essentially amoral and self-interested but extremely intelligent about it, understanding how she fits into a bigger picture and what she is long-term served best by, which can include prioritising the feelings and priorities of people she cares about who do care about things like 'justice' and 'whatever'. She intellectually understands right and wrong, but whether or not she cares about them in the moment is heavily dependent on her personal investment and her cost-benefit analysis of whatever action. She's as capable of casual cruelty as casual kindness; she isn't a malicious person (so cruelty for its own sake has no real appeal to her), but she's not a good person either. She wants to save the world because she lives in it.)
Is there anything you DO NOT want Cole to mention? (CWs and such) wobble hands probably just check in OOC for specific threads.
Can Cole make your character forget him? Not if he doesn't do it promptly the first time they meet; Gwenaëlle writes everything down.
Can Cole make your character not see him? Probably!
Anything else you want me to know? In general I'm usually down for things, I just like to be in OOC communication so we're both on the same page; Gwenaëlle's whole deal can be internally contradictory in ways that might not be immediately obvious, and I'm happy to help parse whatever the fuck weird thing is happening in her head for how Cole would then interpret it!
