Spirit Abilities
*Hearing the Hurt - Being a Spirit of Compassion, Cole uncontrollably feels the pain in places and people. He can remember things from other people's lives, even things like the last emotions of people who have died horrible deaths. He doesn't do this intentionally, it simply happens - and it isn't mind reading. He can only 'hear' things that cause a person hurt or discomfort, usually things they need to confront.
*Not Very Memorable - Cole has a way of not sticking in the minds of most people he meets. This is a skill he's learned to control over time, and he can actively make someone forget they've seen him, even in the middle of a conversation so that he can try a different line of conversation if his social skills fail him. Naturally, the general population gradually forget his face and name when he is out of their sight for a while, but those he chooses to interact more with can hold on to his memory without much issue.
*You Can't See Me - At will, Cole can simply not appear to people. Sometimes it's force of habit, sometimes more purposeful, but when he disappears like this, his presence simply doesn't register to the person he is hiding it from. He can walk right up to them, even brush past them, and he simply can't be perceived. There is a measure of at least some focus involved with this, however, and if caught off-guard or unconscious, he cannot disappear. Magic that dispels the abilities of spirits can also negate this power.
SO - my questions for you!
Can Cole read your character?
If Cole reads your character's pain, what will he find? Anything in particular you want him to zero in on? (Feel free to be esoteric, too! What sights, sounds, smells, tastes?)
Is there anything you DO NOT want Cole to mention? (CWs and such)
Can Cole make your character forget him?
Can Cole make your character not see him?
Anything else you want me to know?

What sights, sounds, smells, tastes?) ash, smoke, volcanic fire are all manifestations of a deep well of rage (just rebel mage things). from what I remember of Cole, Marcus could potentially be difficult to be around, but I can extrapolate in RP if he digs any deeper.
Is there anything you DO NOT want Cole to mention? (CWs and such) no CWs here
Can Cole make your character forget him? probably dependent on the scenario, so if you think he will, just ask! I'll probably say yes especially if there seems like good cause, but heads up is good.
Can Cole make your character not see him? sure, be the creep you want to see in the world.
Anything else you want me to know? Marcus in general is fairly repressed as a matter of survival, and his vibe is always that of someone fairly stoic and in control and mannerly on the surface, with A Lot happening below the surface. he is always a little angry (that's my secret cap) at the world.

Massive anxiety about failing Tevinter/his mother/the Magisterium mixed with equally massive anxiety about failing Riftwatch/Byerly in particular. He spent some time in the dungeon here and has a kneejerk terror reaction to being confined, hates damp & cold and feeling abandoned and worthless, etc. This feeds into his general fear of the way mages are treated in the South, even if he hasn't personally experienced it.
Also dealing with being into Only Dudes and that's not something he's allowed to be back home-- lots of pressure to take over his mother's seat in the Magisterium, get married, have babies, not fuck it all up. He has a wildly unhealthy relationship with his mother, whom he has always bent over backwards to please and never measured up.
THERE'S SO MUCH SORRY
Is there anything you DO NOT want Cole to mention? (CWs and such) nah
Can Cole make your character forget him? Definitely
Can Cole make your character not see him? Yes
Anything else you want me to know? Bene might get mean about it if Cole pokes at him, he's very proud and things that shake that pride can bring out the worst in him.

What sights, sounds, smells, tastes?) LOTS. Ellie's got a metric fuckload of stuff to dig through, but she's absolutely steeped in violence, survivor's guilt and she's just so. Tired. Of being tired. Fire, blood, seawater, and snow are prominent with her, especially snow mixed with ash and blood mixed with seawater. Lots of awful guilt, lots of anger. Crippling amounts of loss, particularly of a father-figure. Basically, she started out as a good person, tried very hard to be a bad person, and succeeded. Now she's reaping the emotional fallout. I'll extrapolate if you want to dig.
Is there anything you DO NOT want Cole to mention? (CWs and such) N/A.
Can Cole make your character forget him? Sure, just give me a heads up.
Can Cole make your character not see him? Of course. Though he might be surprised to find out Ellie can do that, too!
Anything else you want me to know? Ellie's a mess of guilt and loneliness and loss, but hides it as best she can. She wants connections with people but has issues with letting them get too close.

We're going to be more esoteric for vagueness reasons: the sense of being deep underwater and alone, but not drowning. Hope that turns bitter and becomes something to reject. Broken pieces of mirrors, a heavy darkness, a weight carried. Light that hurts your eyes, that you block out, and everything going in circles.
Is there anything you DO NOT want Cole to mention? (CWs and such) everything's fair game!
Can Cole make your character forget him? yes but it is definitely not going to go over great if he realizes later, tbh.

What sights, sounds, smells, tastes?) The sense of being always on the outside, unwanted unless he can make himself useful, disliked for existing. His whole life seems to revolve around being as inoffensive and pleasant as possible, so he'll be allowed to stay around other people. Has never felt that love is reciprocated, nor that he deserves for it to be.

What sights, sounds, smells, tastes?) The big glaring thing is that he accidentally killed his little sister when he was a kid first coming into his magic (sparks, beetles, laughter, light and sudden white noise). He has a lot of fear and self-loathing and anxious anger surrounding magic and the Mage/Templar War and the possibility of mage freedom.
Is there anything you DO NOT want Cole to mention? (CWs and such) Nah.
Can Cole make your character forget him? Kostos is a spirit medium (which I stole from Rhys obviously) so I think that means he wouldn't be inclined to forget? It might not be impossible for Cole to make him if he tries on purpose, though, so that's up to you. If you want it to be possible, I'm down.
Can Cole make your character not see him? Yup.

What sights, sounds, smells, tastes?) that it's most of what you'll find going into her head regardless of what you're looking for, as a starter. Gwenaëlle is the elfblooded bastard of an Orlesian nobleman and the elven chatelaine of his home (who was promoted to that role from lady's maid to his wife after giving birth to Gwenaëlle), and for more than twenty years she was passed off as the legitimate and legitimately human heiress of his title. She knew about her true parentage from a relatively young age and struggled with the implications involved; coupled with a legitimately clinical depressive disorder, this was not a great thing for her formative years. She struggled with living in a constant state of mental crisis with the stress of that secrecy, taking on the traumas (factual and perceived by her) of her mothers, developed negative self-worth as a result of considering herself a crime that was done to both of them, was extremely ripe for and susceptible to intimate partner abuse of different kinds and suffered from it in different relationships over the years. Gwenaëlle's interior world is a big dead dove do not eat, because she is super not OK.
(Also, she has distinct sociopathic qualities - empathy isn't a natural and given thing for her, Gwenaëlle is essentially amoral and self-interested but extremely intelligent about it, understanding how she fits into a bigger picture and what she is long-term served best by, which can include prioritising the feelings and priorities of people she cares about who do care about things like 'justice' and 'whatever'. She intellectually understands right and wrong, but whether or not she cares about them in the moment is heavily dependent on her personal investment and her cost-benefit analysis of whatever action. She's as capable of casual cruelty as casual kindness; she isn't a malicious person (so cruelty for its own sake has no real appeal to her), but she's not a good person either. She wants to save the world because she lives in it.)
Is there anything you DO NOT want Cole to mention? (CWs and such) wobble hands probably just check in OOC for specific threads.
Can Cole make your character forget him? Not if he doesn't do it promptly the first time they meet; Gwenaëlle writes everything down.
Can Cole make your character not see him? Probably!
Anything else you want me to know? In general I'm usually down for things, I just like to be in OOC communication so we're both on the same page; Gwenaëlle's whole deal can be internally contradictory in ways that might not be immediately obvious, and I'm happy to help parse whatever the fuck weird thing is happening in her head for how Cole would then interpret it!

What sights, sounds, smells, tastes?) Derrica survived the Annulment of Dairsmuid, which is the single-most traumatic thing she's lived through. (Fire, ash, blood, screams, fear, desperation, etc.) It should feel like an old wound, something healed but left an ugly scar. Otherwise, she's a fairly well-adjusted and serene individual. There's anger in her, but it's very specifically directed towards the Chantry/templars, et all; she feels she has a clear sightline on who's responsible for Dairsmuid, and carries fury for them along with her, but it's not an overwhelming thing.
Is there anything you DO NOT want Cole to mention? (CWs and such) No, he's good to go. If he hits a nerve, Derrica will excuse herself from the conversation.
Can Cole make your character forget him? Depends on the scenario! Hit me up if you think that's something he might pursue with her. The answer is probably yes, but I'd like to take it on a case by case basis.

Anything else you want me to know? Ellis largely uninterested in prying queries or implications, and will dip out of a conversation under such circumstances. I can also say Ellis might be a difficult person for Cole be around, just due to All of That. If you want specific indistinct impressions he might snag I am happy to provide, but feel free for it to just be a blurry sense of "whoaaaa nooooo" going on here.

[DEEP BREATH]
Astarion's lost more of his living past than his unlife as a baseline. There are glimpses of good memories: the home in Baldur's Gate he used to live in before he was bitten, very warm and probably etched in sunlight, gilded and expensive. The feeling of natural heat beneath his skin. He can't remember his face, his eyecolor, or what he used to look like. It's a gap in his memory.
Aside from that, boy howdy, big content warnings here, please do avoid if necessary, this is all that there is from canon in its totality: Astarion was attacked by a group of humans and beaten to the literal brink of death over a ruling he'd passed out as a Magistrate. Cazador (dark hair, pale skin, red eyes, think BG3's beat for beat rip off of Castlevania's Dracula in terms of looks) a vampire lord, chased away Astarion's assailants and offered to save him. V romantique.
Looking back, all Astarion associates with that night is betrayal and lies and the terrible scent of blood.
Afterwards Astarion was relegated to existing as a living puppet, not in control of his own body, forced to remain at Cazador's side except for the nights where he was sent out into the city dressed in finery to seduce and lure unwitting souls back to his master's table. When Cazador asked Astarion if he wanted to dine with him, if Astarion said yes, he was forced to feed off of dead, rotting rats. If he said no, he was flayed alive and tortured for sport. In the day to day, he and the other slaves would be forced to willingly submit to torture, or torture one another. In two hundred years, all he ate were rats and flies, left in a constant state of starvation.
Astarion's back is also painted with scars, a remnant from one particular night where Cazador cut into his back with a razor over and over again, frustrated that Astarion's screams were ruining his work.
It's left him paranoid and mistrustful, particularly of concepts like hope or kindness. Doubly so for heroics, since 'in two hundred years, no one ever came to rescue him'. I go into all this just so that you can feel comfortable twisting it or using it/describing any of the above however you like.
Smells are generally the overwhelming scent of blood, iron, decay, death, rotting fur, chilled mildew and lightless mold.
The game's sensory visions describe most exchanges as the sensation of a hand on his jaw or neck, forcing him to act/feed, or red eyes in the dark.
Is there anything you DO NOT want Cole to mention? (CWs and such) NA for me, Astarion will, however, bristle at all of it for the above reasons regarding pity and sorrow

Casimir's mind is a mess. A spirit of Justice (ozone, hammering light) passed through a few years ago, shattering about a decade of Tranquility (sleepwalking, a deep pool, the world behind thick cool glass). He's rebuilt, but it's not at 100% and probably never will be.
Though a logical thinker, Casimir feels things deeply and erratically. He's a curious, somewhat obsessive person. There's a degree of envy for people who living comes easily to. He's religious.
Is there anything you DO NOT want Cole to mention? (CWs and such)
Nothing specific to Casimir. OOC, I prefer to avoid discussion of sexual assault in RP.

Abby's harboring a lot of pain, some of it fresher than the rest. Very recently, all of her friends were hunted down and murdered over the span of three days (and then it was her turn except she lived, bitch). She also lost her father about seven odd years ago which is a wound that hasn't healed but isn't nearly as raw as everything else. There's a lot of grief and anger that still lingers. Thoughts of revenge, and regret. Lots of hospital imagery, noose (not the dog... ☹) imagery, and red light could sneak in there too. Think emergency lighting. Sirens and warning bells for sounds, and high-pitched whistles.

By's pain centers largely on the disconnect between his desire to do good and his ability to do so. His deepest desire is to safeguard the vulnerable, so the war has been incredibly hard on him, particularly since he's come into a position of power as head of Diplomacy: every single hard decision he's made, every time he's had to leave someone to their fate, has shattered him a little more.
There's also the pain of the falsehoods he inhabits. People have always seen him as someone villainous or sinister, because of his appearance and his background and his general vibe, and so he's defiantly embraced all the mannerisms of a mustache-twirling baddie as a grand fuck-you to the world. He clings to these behaviors as a defense, so that if people don't like him, he can look down on them for being fooled by the illusion rather than having to actually take it personally.
Finally, there's a lot of loneliness, because he's just generally someone that people have always treated with disdain from moment go; his friends have been few and far between.
In terms of impressionistic stuff: a lot of his pain is layered through with juxtaposed luxury and deprivation, sort of the sense of fine wine and hunger pangs, velvet and cold hard ground, gorgeous music and rot and filth.
Is there anything you DO NOT want Cole to mention? (CWs and such) Nope!

the tl;dr is that he's carrying around a metric fuckton of survivor's guilt, and handling that [checks notes] poorly
wide fields of growing things, deep forests, a sense of both responsibility and shame; a ship blown into a starburst before your eyes; blue fireflies flickering in the air; neon lights in bright colors; everyone's a winner on eros cheerfully announced over PA, over the groans of the dying; blue crystal spiderwebbing over skin, growing out of where a person's eyes, ears, mouth belong; a skeletal monster with blue glowing eyes; star systems burned to atoms as their inhabitants scream; waiting in the dark for days, people around you dying slow; a city going up in flames, collapsing under the drumbeat of dragon's wings.

Anything else you want me to know? holden's actually pretty used to spirit types knowing what's in his head, so while that'd weird him out i think overall he'll be okay with it. however, he won't take allusions to or conversations about the pain he's damming up very well so like weighing hands on what the tone of this cr might be.

What sights, sounds, smells, tastes?) Bastien's very cheerful and not faking it, and he's almost never actively dwelling on The Past. I don't know if that matters to how Cole reads things, if something is fully repressed instead of on the surface where someone might be thinking about it around him? But in case it does!
Anyway, a sample of some specific memories:
- His mother throwing a spinning top at him (not too hard, for the record, like more of a frustrated side-handed toss than a baseball pitch) and telling his younger siblings they can thank him and his useless toys if there's nothing to eat tomorrow.
- A masked woman (Méraud) watching his reaction to a gift she's given him (a little painting of a goat) very carefully, and asking if he's there to kill her. Which he is.
- Feeling very ashamed and like he ruined everything when the friend he was in love with (Vincent) lied to him about the woman he was seeing in an apparent attempt to be gentle with his feelings.
And he has a lot of background abandonment/trust/inadequacy issues that aren't tied to specific incidents. Just a background understanding that he's not much unless he tries, people only stick around if he deliberately makes it worth their time, and he always has to be prepared to take care of himself instead of depending on anyone else for it.
Is there anything you DO NOT want Cole to mention? (CWs and such) I don't see how sexual assault could come up, but if it does somehow just give me a cw in the comment subject line first.
Can Cole make your character forget him? Yes.

Anything else you want me to know? Bastien's a normie who's a little more skittish than most Riftwatchers about magic and so on, so if Cole noticeably reads his mind or he finds out that he made him forget, it'll freak him out and is likely to end the thread. (But not the CR! He'd just need time and stuff.)
